So I’m not sure what everyone’s religious preferences are so I’ll keep this light. I grew up with the background of babies get baptized when their babies and then they go to church throughout their childhood, get confirmed, get married in a church and the cycle continues.
We will be baptizing our son next month. I wanted to do it sooner but when family lives all over it was hard to get everyone here before his first birthday. Anyway, I am excited to get back to the church and raise our kids in faith. If they choose a different path later in life that’s fine We just wanted them to know God and have that background the way Jon and I did growing up.
When it comes to my soon-to-be step daughter she wasn’t baptized yet and is 7 now. No judgement here, they wanted her to have a say and I totally support that. However, now that we have brought her to church from time to time and she’s had the opportunity to talk about God with us and knows her brother is getting baptized she is interested.
She and I had a chat yesterday about what her wishes are, she expressed that she wants to be baptized and wants to learn more. We started last night with a new bedtime prayer that my sister and I use to say before bed when we were little.
“Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray thee Lord my soul to keep, If I should die before I wake, I pray thee Lord my soul to take. God bless Mommy and Daddy…”
I am exited to teach her this prayer and have her be able to help teach her brother some day. I love seeing the excitement she has in wanting to know more.
